Quite a few months ago, in late 2009 I was thinking about writing on 2 blog projects about game strategy and psychology, unfortunately I never been able to focus on it and I would like to use my free time besides work more often to actually start working on them. My original title "Psychology of Poker" is unfortunately not up for grabs anymore, as there is already a book with exactly the same title and I might publish this project as book somewhere in the future ... thus I had to pick something else to avoid any trouble.
Basically, the psychology part is supposed to analyze almost everything poker related that does have an effect on our mind and influences our game. Everybody is welcome to post suggestions for potential topics, just comment on this blog or send me a PM.
My general target is to write a total of about 30 blogs within those 2 projects and rack up ~ 40.000 - 50.000 words (probably 1500 words per average for each topic and blog, some might have more though). I do realize though that the vast majority of the audience prefers short topics ... but this would be against my nature if I was to keep it as short as possible. One option would be to split them up to 2 blogs per topic (or more, depending on my mind flow) with ~ 800 words / blog. Maybe it is a bit old fashioned but it takes quite a few words to explain complexe topics with all its aspects and this can't be done within 150 words.
It is up to the reader itself though to draw his / her own conclusions and pick the most useful parts for the own game. After all, the interaction between all of us will help us to improve our game and all feedback is highly appreciated.
I did have a few other potential titles for the project though and the current one is not the final one, well it could be but I am not 100% sure yet and I usually get a lot of good ideas when I am already deep into one topic and have a steady work flow. I was tempted to use Pokerology (combination of Poker and Psychology), but this more sounded like Scientology and this is surely not my intention lol.
Anyways, this blog project is supposed to help you to understand the psychology of poker much better ... it is a very underestimated part of the game in my eyes so far and it will surely not hurt to learn more about it. I did not study psychology and I am surely also no Dr. Med. w/e ... I am just a random guy that enjoys playing and talking about poker and every psychologist would surely say that I am addicted. Sorry guys, but no matter how long you gonna search in my mind ... you will never find any addiction, I prefer the term passion though .
The following topics are already settled down and will be part of this project:
Poker - a mind game or just gambling?
Why do you play poker?
The human nature
The inevitable downswing
Up Up to the sky
Good Beats vs Bad Beats
Reversed psychology
Self-control
The self-imposed isolation
What would have happened, if ...
Feel the rush
*Tilt*
