Carpe Diem - Seize the day

This blog entry is not directed at anyone particular, it does reflect the authors evaluation of the own thinking process and may encourage the reader to draw their own conclusions and learn something valuable about themselves. The saying itself is a psychological concept and does not particularly have anything to do with poker, yet there are a lot of similarities that you will also notice when playing poker as well.

I am currently working on a poker version of this publication though, I just didn't want to lose the idea and had to write it down ;)

Our life contains many challenges, some of them have been our own choice and others are enforced and out of our control - but most of them have one thing in common: they appear to be unfair and a torture on first sight. But without them, we would have by far less opportunities to keep our mind busy and improve.
It can be a tough pill to swallow at times though to accept, that despite having a certain influence on the situation, the final decision might not be in our hands. Sometimes we might have to give up some of our freedom and respect the principle of give and take and this is one important step to increase our understanding to become a better human being on the never ending path of finding and maintaining the inner balance of body and soul.

One of the challenges is to break out of our daily routine and leave the comfort zone to discover our self imposed limits and how far we can actually expand our horizon. The insight and input from others does help us on this mission to increase our knowledge and get another point of view. We do not necessarily have to agree with it, but the fact that it does exist already teaches us an important lesson about diversity.
Most people are afraid of the unknown, because their own comfort zone so far didn't really expose them to any risk. If we try to leave it, we are exposed and unexpected situations may arise that we might have not been prepared or ready for yet. But instead of running away we should welcome the opportunity and the way we actually handle the scenario does give us a lot of insight about ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses.

Without taking any risk, we will never be able to break out of the daily routine and achieve something extraordinary. Many might not have the ability to do so and of course this does not necessarily mean that they are not happy with their life. It just seems to make our life more complete if we know for ourselves that we have been able to master a difficult challenge and this does give us something to look back when we are down. The positive impact on others contains so much potential to gain power and self confidence and does help us to solve problems in all other aspects of our life as well.

Nobody can tell you what this might be though, you will just get another perspective that may help you notice things that you personally never really paid much attention to. Also, it does not have to be a specific achievement, it might be an ability or even another person that you feel really close to and can share things with that you would never tell anyone else. It does take a lot of trust though to open up, because you will expose your most intimate thoughts.
There is no guarantee that you will ever find that specific objective that will give you self confidence to master every situation, some will never find it or even realize that they have been missing it. They don't pay much attention to the way a problem is solved, they are happy when its finally done and just move on and pretend that nothing happened.

Others get lost on the path and dive into another direction or lose the focus and motivation to continue, because it is very time consuming and you can barely see a light at the end of the tunnel, just some variations of grey. An open mind is always required though, because otherwise we will just make it more difficult and aggravate the exposure.

It is part of the human nature though that we let emotions, feelings, previous experiences and prejudices have a certain influence on our thinking process and our final decision might not be the most logical choice. Nobody is perfect though and the mistakes are bound to happen, it just matters how we handle them and if we actually appreciate the lesson and grow as an individual.

We shall not complain though when we just stay in our comfort zone and don't even try to improve and gain a more versatile and complex understanding. At the end of the day we are responsible for our actions and also have to accept all possible consequences, even though we might not like them. It just matters that we actually use the time that we have been given and live our life without restricting our mind.

Thanks a lot for your attention.
