The Everleaf Network remains one of the few US friendly poker networks as of right now and was able to pick up some of the momentum when the Merge Gaming Network didn't accept new sign ups from the United States. Now that Merge has officially reopened to new sign ups with the exception of some blocked states (Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, New York, and Washington as well as Washington DC), one of the contenders to pick up the US traffic is now back in the competition as of October 12th 2011.
Besides the Cake Network and Yatahay (with a heavily promoting Americas CardRoom that recently acquired DoylesRoom), Everleaf is one of the harbors for US poker players and recently, an Italian licensee with a decent player base came on board and resulted in a significant boost in overall traffic.
However, these good news on first sight did indeed have a downside, because the Italian licensees are used to a by far higher rake rate and seem to have pushed the Everleaf network to increase the rake on two different occasions. A few weeks ago, the max. rake for CAP tables was raised to 7 EURO and this already caused some action in the poker community. Whereas most players from the US were not worried and not all skins also share the Euro tables as well, it was soon followed by another move and you can follow the action here:
***MintedPoker / Minted Poker Official Support & Promotions Thread***
Apparently the network decided
to raise the rake on the normal Euro cash tables from 5 to 6.3% as well and notified the network skin operators briefly
to either accept that or block all Euro tables on their own skin. This
obviously caused some grief and quite some operators do not agree with this
decision and also notified the network management to reconsider this move.
It is quite obvious that a few
operators alone will barely have any pull, but who knows what might happen if some
of them with the most traffic unite and get in touch with the Everleaf Gaming
(ELG) network. It also remains unclear whether or not the traffic will keep
growing with such a short term business decision, but the recent moves don't
necessarily give faith that the network doesn't intend to increase the rake for
the USD tables soon either.
