Yesterday a friend of mine tagged me in a picture on Facebook from half a year ago during the live reporting at the EPT Berlin 2012 and I had to look twice - was that really me? Woah, how fat ... didn't feel like using a more polite but less honest wording and the truth is usually the best way as well. Around that time the wake up call occurred and I did have my last alcohol mid April (in Dublin, where else) and the last cup of coffee on May 1st.
Half a year has now passed and even though I have not posted the updates as regularly as at the beginning of my health trip, I can play the mind pestering game of numbers without hesitation and lost about 13 kilos so far. Especially at the start I was driving myself insane and would check how much I have lost every other day ... only to push even more with the next workout. At first the general health and getting back in a certain routine was on the schedule and from there I continued with the upper body and back, now the lower back is getting its due diligence that it deserves (especially considering the work behind the computer screen most of the time).
In general I could stop now since I reached my target weight, but that would be foolish as the vicious circle would start again and only consistency helps to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Besides that I cannot stop moaning each time I check my stomach ... seriously, I don't expect or want a six-pack but can it please be somewhat flat? Yes it is the most difficult to achieve (again) and requires a lot of dedication, but I want it now ;)
I don't have any reason to complain though and sometimes even ask myself "Who is this person?" - the first thing I check in the supermarket these days is a) salad b) grape juice and c) fruits. Sure, I still drink soda from time to time when I am in a hurry or on live events, but fast food is the very last thing on my mind. Until the end of the year I intend to continue with the no alcohol or coffee policy, which makes the parties at the live events kinda pointless as I could not enjoy any of the drinks lol.
Not sure if there is any progress work wise unless you consider more hours and slightly more pay worth it, but my first paid article upon request in a print magazine is definitely a nice boost for the mindset and hopefully I can continue with it. Being able to work with tight deadlines and under pressure played a certain role for that opportunity, at least one thing the insane hours are good for. On Tuesday I am off to the next event in Amsterdam and December includes the WPT and EPT Prague, 2013 is already showing its footsteps in the door with another 2 live events on the schedule as well for January.
Ah well, let's keep on grinding and less complaining ... life could be by far worse. And maybe Santa even drops a new camera and lenses as well. ;)
